Andrei Nikolayevich Frolov was born in 1951 in Moscow, Russia. In 1969-1974 he was a student of the Moscow State University. Since 1974 he is working in the All-Union (now Russian) Institute for Plant Protection, since 1990 he has occupied the position of leading research worker. Awarded a degree of Candidate [Ph.D.] in Biology in 1980, a degree of Doctor of Sciences [D.Sc.] (Biology) in 1993 (thesis entitled 'The population variability of the European corn borer and maize resistance to the pest'). He is author of 141 scientific publications, including 1) The biotaxonomical analysis of harmful species of the genus Ostrinia. In: Insect Ethology (Proc. All-Union Entomological Soc., v. 66). Leningrad, 1984, p. 4-100" and 2) 'Variation in the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis, and allies (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae)'. - Mem. Soc. r. belge Ent. (Proc. 11th Eur. Congr. Lepid., Malle (Belgium), 22-26 March 1998), 1998, v. 38, p. 71-105. He took part in many scientific conferences, symposia and congresses. Dr A.N. Frolov is a member of the Russian Entomological Society, the International Working Group on Ostrinia of the IOBC. He was grantee of the International Science Foundation (1994) and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (1994, 1997, 2000). His scientific interest lies in the field of applied and theoretical aspects of ecology and plant protection problems concerning primarily cereal insects and the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis, first of all. A.N. Frolov is married, has one daughter. E-mail: andrei_n_frolov@www.e247.com, or anf@mn1780.spb.edu; post: 3, Podbelsky av., Pushkin, St. Petersburg, RUSSIA 196600.
